Product Rating: 8.5 / 10 (price drop in these boxes leads to a huge value upside and an increased product rating from me!)

Three things conspired to give this box a 9.9 instead of the perfect 10:

1) I opened the back of a pack and saw the gold card back of the Khabibulin Retrospective. I knew there was a goal parallel and a goal auto parallel and obviously I was hoping for the auto. So I flipped over the card hoping for some ink ... and nothing. Poor me, I'll have to take an /25 parallel as a consolation!

2) Of the 5 rookies I got, I already had 2, meaning my set only grew by 3 rookies. Of course, Kobasew and Tarnstrom were two of those three, so that is pretty good consolation too!

3) The final pack had the jersey card. So I slowly lifted the card in front of it up, and saw the Gold On the Right Track. You may or may not know Justin Williams has a card in that set I still need, so I was pretty excitied to see I had some Gold On the Right Track. Unforetunately I saw the socks a split second later ... they were definately Atlanta colors. My disappointment was quickly subsided as I remembered Heatley was in the set. Again, some pretty sweet consolation!

As you can gather, not much went wrong with this break. I finished up my base set. I got three more rookies. The insert selection was great, two of the three Common Grounds were top quality. The parallels were great as well, Havlat is a nice guy to have and any of the Gold UD Retrospective parallels is a good pull with only 25 out there. And then the jersey, c'mon a Heatley Gold jersey numbered to 175, that's not going to hurt the break one bit!

The only real problem I had with the break was that the Retrospectives seemed VERY similiar to my last break (right down to Nash and Chistov) and the rookies weren't amazing. Kobasew and Tarnstrom are nice additions, but Morissonn and Sharp aren't tough to come by and I don't think Tellqvist is either. But those are only minor qubbles and compared to all the good stuff this box had, won't hold me back at all.

Dave and Adams is selling these boxes for $30 a pop right now. That's cheaper than MVP usually is. And what you get is amazing ... a stunning base set, 5 rookies (OK, so the checklist is cluttered by at least one will probably be decent), a base card parallel, chances at some other rarer insert parallels ... and oh yeah, a memorabilia card of some type. Maybe the book values are low and unimpressive, but really, what other $30 break offers you this much??
