Box Rating: 5.5 / 10
Product Rating: 7.5 / 10

At a discount (eg, not the $6 a pack retail) Beehive isn't a horrible product. Each box contains one Oversized Dual Box Topper, one Stick card, one Jersey card, one silver parallel, 5 variation cards, and 3 rookies. "Longer odds" cards (the Gold parallel, autographs, and signature jerseys) combine to fall about one per 3 boxes as well, giving the potential for yet another sweet box addition.

The catch is that it is quite easy to strike out on these. The checklists are awfully large and cluttered, as my box break above should show. Sean Burke overzised Dual ... Mike Dunham stick ... Carl Corazzini rookie. Not the best of pulls.

Design-wise, the cards are passable ... not horrible but not especially remarkable either. The variations are actually quite amusing and do help add some spice to those packs without the rookies or GU. With a minimum of 11 inserts across 15 packs, there is something to keep you interested in the box until the very end.

But in the end, Beehive essentialy works out to a lottery ... if you win you are thrilled, if you lose you've got just about nothing. Will you get that Mario Lemieux Dual Jersey Boxtopper or Sean Burke? Will your stick card be Martin Brodeur or Felix Potvin?

Boxes seem to be going cheap online, something around $40-50 and at that price, Beehive can be an enjoyable gamble that will leave you with some nice GU. Just be sure you don't pay too much, lest you be left in the rain with Potvin and Burke.
