03-04 UD MVP isn't quite as enjoyable as some previous MVP brands, but it's able to leave its mark and still be a decent break.

This year's MVP returns the 1 memorabilia per box guarentee. Sure it's only practice used stuff, but it's also a $30 box. That's not a bad deal. Added to this year's MVP is also a rookie redemption card, which comes about 2 per 3 boxes. Rookie Redemptions are worth 10 rookies, which will be very nice when January rolls around.

The bad part about MVP is that the parallels are only 1 per box on average. See, what made the previous Silver Scripts great was that they were easy to pull and you got a lot of fascimile autographs. Nothing at all wrong with that. UD instead decided to limit these cards ... I guess they figure fascimile autos are the big thing? But at one per it's not as neat a feature.

I also am not a fan of the new design. Reading the player names is almost impossible - and trust me, with a 440 card set you'll be pulling some guys you'll need to read the card to name. The jersey background is also pretty tacky. However, to UD's credit they did make the backs look nice, and since the set is designed for setbuilders ...

Overall, my box wasn't bad. I was very glad to get the Rookie Redemption card. The MVP Souvenirs of Kariya is nice, even if it is only practice used. But I especially love that Sundin Gold Script. Considering the difficulty of pulling a Gold Script and then considering there are 440 different guys to get, pulling Sundin was very, very nice.

Not the best MVP in the world, but it still gives newer collectors a good springboard into the hobby and while it's not quite as fun as previous years, it's still a cheap and fairly fun box break.
