The Mobile Baybears won the first half Western Division title. The playoffs begin Wednesday, Sept 3 at Mobile's Hank Aaron Stadium.

Home games are played at the new Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile. The stadium was dedicated on Thursday, April 1, 1997, at the team's first home game. Among those in attendance were home-run king and Mobile's own Hank Aaron, Brave's broadcaster Don Sutton, Frank Boling, and many of the original Mobile Bears' team. The Baybears are leading the Southern league in attendance, averaging over 4,000 per game.
