The 1997Mobile Baybears made the playoffs in their inaugural season by winning the 1st half Western Division title.

Home games are played at the new Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile. The stadium was dedicated on Thursday, April 1, 1997, at the team's first home game. Among those in attendance were home-run king and Mobile's own Hank Aaron, Brave's broadcaster Don Sutton, Frank Boling, and many of the original Mobile Bears' team. The Baybears led the Southern league in attendance last year, averaging over 4,000 per game.
