**************************** Uninvited TAB 5/26/98 by Alanis Morissette from the album City of Angels Soundtrack Transcribed by: Matt Miller mmiller@carroll1.cc.edu with a little help on the chord progression from: decipherthoughts@hotmail.com **************************** Hiya everybody! I was surprised to see that no one had tabbed this song out yet. Even though I don't usually like slow piano songs, this one really sounds so eerie, it sends chills up my back. The vocal harmonies, guitars, strings, and drums are all arranged so perfectly. Anyway, onto the tab! -- Standard Tuning Low to high: E, A, D, G, B, E Key of D Time signature is 4/4 throughout. Intro/verse riff played throughout: Piano arranged for guitar 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + | E-----------17------18------17-----| B---15-----------------------------| G----------------------------------| D----------------------------------| A----------------------------------| E----------------------------------| This is played over and over throughout the song. After Alanis sings "An unfortunate..... slide", the guitars come in playing this riff throughout. 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + | E----------------------------------| B----------3-----------3-------3---| G------2-------2---3-------2-------| D--0-------------------------------| A----------------------------------| E----------------------------------| The implied chord progression throughout the verses and choruses is this: Verse: D Gm D D Gm D Chorus: C G D Dmaj7? D And here's how it goes together: D Gm D Like anyone would be, I am flattered by your fascination with me D Gm D Like any hot blooded woman, I have simply wanted an object to crave C G D Dmaj7? D But you, you're not allowed. You're uninvited. An unfortunate slide The outro solo is a verse that speaks for itself without lyrics. To try and tab it out exactly would defeat it's whole purpose. In other words, just play what feels right to keep the emotion of the song! The entire thing is basically based around the D harmonic minor scale which is what gives those eerie fast licks their haunting quality. The solo starts on the lower frets with a lot of open-D string pedal notes and gradually works it's way up the fretboard towards the end. It's hard to hear exactly what is going on, so if you need some help on getting started, just e-mail me and I might be able to help you. Oh yeah, crank the distortion and get your flanger going! Here are the lyrics: (taken from the web) Like anyone would be I am flattered by your fascination with me Like any hot blooded woman I have simply wanted an object to crave But you, you're not allowed You're uninvited An unfortunate slide It must be strangely exciting To watch the stoic squirm Must be somewhat hard telling To watch them burn me shepherd But you you're not allowed You're uninvited An unfortunate slide Like any uncharted territory I must seem greatly intriguing You speak of my love like You have experienced love like mine before But this is not allowed You're uninvited An unfortunate slide I dont think you unworthy I need a moment to deliberate -- The implied chord progression after all the instruments kick in is simply what chords are basically being heard throughout. I'm not sure if the guitars are playing any of them, but if you were to cover this song with a band, one way you could do it is have the guitars playing the chord progression throughout the verses. Just use your imagination! There are lots of ways that would work, just play it with emotion! If anyone has anything add, change, or debate about this tab, please email me. I'm not 100% sure about the chord progression. On another site someone said that second to last chord was a Ddim, but that doesn't sound right, and the Dmaj7 is the closest thing I could find that sounds okay. Later!
