THE WOMBAT - The wombat lives across the seas, Among the far Antipodes. He may exist on nuts and berries, Or then again, on missionaries; His distant habitat precludes Conclusive knowledge of his moods. But I would not engage the wombat In any form of mortal combat. ---Ogden Nash

It's here the Wombats of 1998. If your reading this you're probably thinking...what shameless promotion. Well, YOUR RIGHT. For complete information on the most feared team in A.S.A. Softball, go to our MAIN PAGE at www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Field/7973! For your enjoyment!

Here is a list of what we call "WOMBAT FACTS". The Wombats were established in 1994. On opening day Frank Papp guided the Wombats first ever victory holding down the Raiders 4 to 3. There have been 23 wombat players who wore the uniform. We have no uniforms, so there are no retired numbers. However, we did retire Walt "Gapper" Stemmler's pair of blue jeans. Gapper's trademark was his bluejeans plus a wicked knuckleball. For slow-pitch softball that's wacky. Gapper is a huge fan of the Wombats today, even though he gave up the game. "I have talent on loan from god, so now dry up and I use the term loosely". As Gapper told us last week at a Wombat alumni reunion.

The team made the post-season twice, back in 1994 (we finished at 3-13) well, all the teams made the playoffs that year! We lost in the first round to a team named Destiny by a respectable score of 9 to 5. Then in 1997 the Wombats lost to the Bandits 14 to 4, in a game which was alot closer than the score would indicate. The most wins the Wombats compiled in a row is 3. The most losses is 9. But who cares we have fun...well, if you call waking up on Sunday mornings at 7am fun.

In 98' the Wombats decided to take a year off so that the league wouldn't have us to "kick around anymore"...BUT...look for us to get our butts kicked in 1999!

THE FAN BASE...Many wombat fans are scattered all over the U.S. and the World. Outside of New Jersey, we have many fans in Maine and Virginia...In fact I think they're more fans that follow us in Virginia than New Jersey...go figure! We have lots of fans all over the World, take for example Iceland. We might have a fan there. I don't know it's really a guess. However, I assume that Austrailia is where millions of fans check us out at our web page! Because as you know a wombat is from down under and it is a marsupial, bear-like if you will.

Well remember keep in touch with the Wombats ALL YEAR ROUND!! E-Mail us at ....duh908@hotmail.com and tell us what you think!
