April 11, 1997 - The Bombers have announced they have reached a verbal agreement with Head Coach and General Manager Larry Wintoneak for the 1997-98 season. A formal signing is expected within the next few weeks, as soon as lawyers on both sides have approved the deal.



March 26, 1997 - The Bombers held their Annual General meeting tonight. A motion to amend the constitution to increase the number of Directors, and to elect half of them to Two-year terms was passed.
There was substantial discussion on the dismissal of Ray Maluta, the team's financial picture and other club business. It was revealed that negotiations were on-going with Coach & G.M. Larry Wintoneak, but the process was halted so the new Board and executive should have a say in the matter. Elections for the new Board closed out the meeting:

March 2, 1997 - The Bombers held their annual wind-up banquet and awards presentation tonight. Team President Tim Dunham thanked the players for showing a lot of class and not giving up for their last game after being eliminated from playoff contention. (They beat Minot 4-3 in their last game) He also thanked the board, the Billet Parents, the Corporate sponsors and the fans. Coach and General Manager Larry Wintoneak also spoke, echoing a lot of Dunham's comments. Team Captain Warren Ayers made a couple of presentations to stick-boy John Laidlaw and Trainer Steve Hildebrand on behalf of the players.

All-Star sweatshirts were presented to Steve Rogers, Eddie Wood and Rob Schrader. Winners of individual player awards were:
  • MOST GENTLEMANLY - CHAD LESLIE
  • MR. HUSTLE - BRETT SAUTNER
  • BEST DEFENSEMAN - EDDIE WOOD
  • MOST IMPROVED - DAVID TURK
  • MOST POPULAR (CFAR) - MIKE REAGAN & ROB SCHRADER (TIE)
  • OUTSTANDING LOCAL - DAVID SCULLY
  • ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - DAVID SCULLY
  • HIGH SCORER - STEVE ROGERS
  • HOME HARDWARE 3-STAR AWARD - STEVE ROGERS
  • MOST VALUABLE PLAYER - STEVE ROGERS

    Following the recent release of 20-year olds Steve May and Dwayne Meikle, five players are not eligible to return next season:
    Tobias Keyes, Chad Englot, Warren Ayers, Brett Sautner & Steve Rogers.



    January 21, 1997 - Three members of the Bombers are named to the SJHL northern division All Star team: Steve Rogers, Eddie Wood and Rob Schrader. Rogers is currently fifth in league scoring with 35 goals and 34 assists for 69 points in 48 games. Eddie wood continues to be one of the top defencemen in the league, and Rob Schrader remains in 6th place among the top goaltenders in the SJHL. All three players figured prominently in the Bombers 3-0 win over the North division leading Nipawin Hawks tonight. Rogers scored two, and assisted on the other goal by Wood. Rob Schrader stopped 37 shots for his first shut-out in a Bomber uniform.



    January 17, 1997 - "Official Press Release from SJHL President" - The following members of the Flin Flon Bombers and North Battleford North Stars are each suspended for TWO games as a result of the line brawl which took place during their game in North Battleford on January 15/97. These suspensions are as per league policy governing incidents of this nature.
      Flin Flon: Steve Zinger, Steve May, David Turk, Clayton Quinn.
      North Battleford: Cody Thompson, Ryan Hodgins, Kent Gillings, Bart Redden.




    January 11, 1997 - Bombers aquire 18-year old Goaltender Shane DeLaronde, who was recently released from the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).



    January 3, 1997 - Bombers aquire the playing rights to 20-year old defenseman Kevin Godfrey from Thunder Bay, Ontario. Godfrey joins team immediately, and makes an impact in the Bombers weekend victories over Melfort & Notre Dame.
