Leafs summer activity:

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been easily the most improved team this season. With the team's solid showing in the playoffs as an added bonus. That being said, there are many areas that need to be improved during the summer. See the coming editorial for further details...

Near Future:

Draft Day...
As draft day approaches Toronto's first round pick in the '99 draft is not going to be in the top 20. This will require extra care from the scouting staff to overcome such a late position. Watch for a surprise or two in the coming weeks.

Editorial:

Well folks, that's it. The '98/'99 season has drawn to a close, and in the Leafs' case it is not the time to look back. It is time to look ahead.
This summer will see certain needs fullfilled and certain projects terminated. Here are a few things that I feel should be high on the "things to do" list of Toronto management if they are, in fact, serious about improving the team.

Will be added shortly

Rumor Mill:

While rumors have not exactly been running rampant of late, it has been fairly clear that a couple of last year's Leafs won't be back for training camp. Fredrik Modin and Todd Warriner are a couple of younger players who can't seem to keep a regular place in the lineup. There would undoubtably be takers for either of the two, and it sure would be nice to see either of them bring back a grittier winger, like a Martin Lapointe (DET)or Rob Brown (PIT)

Hmmmm...
One thing that I just can't seem to let die is the idea of aquiring Daniel Alfredsson for Sergei Berezin, Sergei is a sniper, pure and simple and lead the leafs in goal scoring, although his cheching leaves something to be desired. Alfredsson is a solid puck handler and I thing his passing and checking would blend perfectly with Mats Sundin.
