Off-season moves
The blues have traded L Stephane Matteau to the San Jose Sharks or C Darren Turcotte fulfilling the need for a good #2 centre that the blues tryed to get at the deadline to help former teammate Joe Murphy score some goals. This #2 centre thing is asuming the blues can re-sign Turgeon. If so look for the Hull-Turgeon-Courtnall line to be reunited followed by a strong second line of Campbell-Turcotte-Murphy. All the positions after that are up for grabes. Look for Chris Kenady to get a spot on the roster for the most part of the season with the blues. Asuming he re-signs aswell.
Offseason
Get:
-MORE DEFENCEMEN. Chris Pronger and Al MacInnis works too much on D. Pronger will be around for awhile but MacInnis won't be here forever.
-Find a disgruntled winger or two that are unhappy where they are and get them while giving up very little. Not to mention any names but Fleury and Mogilny come to mind.
Get Rid Of:
-Excess Defence that are not being used
-Thankfully Keenan is gone so there won't be much else to get rid of.
-If any team out there wants Murphy all they have to do is ask aand he's yours.
Future:
-With Reasoner (1st round pick last year) graduating from Boston look for him to be with the club at some point next year either breifly or all season. Look for him to emerge as an NHLer by the 98-99 season.
-If the Blues don't find some more reliable Defence, Pronger and MacInnis will die.
-The Blues top center Pierre Turgeon is a restricted free agent but look for him to resign with the Blues. That's most likely why they didn't get anyone at the deadline.
-The Rangers have the most tallented selection of unrestricted free agent so if the Blues get some one it will hopefully be from there.
