The Léanne Zoë Update

Right from the beginning, Leanne opened her eyes wide just like in this photo from the hospital. This has led us to call her "Bright Eyes" a lot.

Phew, it's now been a couple of days, and we're finally settling down enough that I can come back to the computer and update the page. Actually, as I write this, I haven't even checked e-mail, so please bear with me : ) There's a lot of stuff on this page, so for most of the photos, I'm only going to put thumbnails here. Finally, one with Claire. Although somebody should tell Jamie not to take a picture of somebody in front of a window

Leanne is doing very well, and seems healthy so far, so we went home on schedule on Thursday morning. Our experience in the hospital was very good. The nurses and doctors were very nice (although if Dr. Ulland could have found a time OTHER than 5AM to do his checkup it would have been okay with us).

Here's one of Leanne sleeping in her bassinet at home. This probably comes as a shock to some (including me when I heard it!) but studies say that a baby should NOT be put in blankets when sleeping. Even the bumper pads on cribs are considered bad.

There is one kind of funny story from the hospital. At our hospital they encourage the father to spend the night in the room with mother and child, and so they put this little bench with cushions on it for him to crash on. The first night Jamie curled up on it, and was comfortable enough. At one point on Wednesday though, Theresa happened to sit on the bench and found that it was pretty comfortable, at least relative to the bed. So, that night, when the nurse came to do her checks, she was somewhat surprised to find Jamie in the bed, and Theresa on the bench. She didn't mind : ).

The other really nice thing that happened that night is that Leanne slept well enough that we were able to have her in the room all night and still get a semi-decent night's sleep. The first night we finally gave up around 2AM, and asked them to take her to the nursery.

And here's one in the bassinet at the hospital.

Right now, she tends to become very active around 10PM (just like she did in the womb), but settles down by midnight. After that, she'll wake up to eat and go right back to sleep. Last night, Thursday night, it was a bit of a problem though because she wanted to be fed every 2 hours! Theresa and I managed to survive by splitting up the night.

I guess that some people are curious about the names. No, we did not name her after anyone. Basically, we were looking for names we liked, that sounded good together, that could be pronounced in both English and French, that had good meanings (Leanne: from Gaelic for 'with great affection', Zoe: from Greek for 'life'), and of course for something with accents (Well, you knew Jamie was weird before this, didn't you?).

Other than that, there's not too much news. We're taking lots of pictures, doing a lot of holding and kissing and rocking and cooing and changing and feeding. We made a quick little trip to Jamie's work to show her off. Leanne has now seen the inside of a Chinese buffet, Wal-Mart and Walgreen's.

We think we're just going to relax for the Labour Day weekend, and enjoy being with each other.Who knows, maybe we can fit some laundry and housecleaning in there somehow.

Oh, by the way... we've heard a couple of comments. Jamie does NOT normally look like the picture on the other page. He was VERY tired : )
