The Intercounty Youth Soccer League (ICYSL or InterCounty Soccer) is a youth soccer program whose primary goal is to provide players an opportunity to play competitive, recreational soccer. It does this by bringing together neighboring towns in Union, Middlesex, and Essex counties in New Jersey whose local programs are not large enough to support in-town leagues for kids (U-10 to U-16) who still wish to play recreational soccer.

Started in 1993 by Mike "The Wise Old One" Burkert of the Colonia Soccer Club with 3 towns and 8 teams in one U11-15 division, ICYSL has slowly and selectively grown and encompasses 13 clubs/towns and 86 teams in 8 age divisions in the Fall 2000 season.

Teams compete in U-16, U-14, U-12, and U-10 Coed and Girls divisions (U-14, U-12 and U-10 in the spring). Towns are free to enter teams in one or all divisions for the fall and spring seasons. Teams play a 10 game schedule along with the SoccerFest Cup competition with trophies given for both league and cup play.

The clubs and towns that make up Intercounty Soccer are all within 20-30 minutes of each other--a proximity that eliminates the "cross country" drives that often characterize competitive travel programs. ICYSL, however, provides a great opportunity for these players to continue in soccer by competing for their town against neighboring communities and building up friendly rivalries.

The clubs and towns that comprise the Intercounty Youth Soccer League in 2000 are:

ICYSL is, first and foremost, a recreational program and all players must play at least half of each game. Varsity and Travel players are not allowed to play. Playing rules also encourage competitive balance during the games and running up scores results in points being deducted from a team.

There are no tryouts for ICYSL teams and anyone who wishes to play can do so regardless of their ability. Each town often has a number of players capable of playing select/travel soccer who opt for the ICYSL. Many players have also "graduated" to select, school and college teams from Intercounty Soccer.
