The Beginning

The Pickwick Cruising Club (PCC) was formed April 13, 1996 after the Pickwick Sailing Association (PSA) merged with the Pickwick Yacht Club (PYC).   There had been a growing interest for some time in starting an organization free of expensive overhead just for boaters who wanted to cruise and raft out on the Tennessee River and it's tributaries.

The New PCC Membership quickly decided the annual dues would not be out of any persons reach.   Funny, normally everyone wants to spend the least as possible, but in this case everyone felt the dues should be $20 a year.   It was felt we should make sure we had enough funds for our Newsletter and Mailouts.   If we did not use all the funds by the end of the Year, it was suggested we have a cook out, or buy something for all the members or their boats.   The rules/bylaws were simple.   If you wanted to come, then come.   If you were ready to leave, then leave.   If you did not want to have fun, then find somewhere else to go.   Sailboaters and powderboats immediately agreed on everything; which you know is very rare.

All the PCC members decided there would not be a President, or Vice President.  All that was needed was a Secretary to produce a newsletter when needed and Treasurer to collect the small annual dues and furnish stamps and paper to the Secretary.   Thus the Pickwick Cruising Club was born.

On February 9, 1997 the PCC Secretary created a Home Page where people could go for entertainment, learn about the PCC, and find boating information.   An email address was also created where anyone interested could send mail to get more information about this enjoyable club.   Feel free to send any questions or comments to us.   We are always looking for people who want to relax, getaway from the daily grind, have good clean fun, and a good time.

Visit our other pages for information on the Rafting Schedule of Raft-ups, the boats For Sale, and our Membership.   There is a short biography of each Member and pictures of our Members and their boats.

In March of 2000 the PCC Secretary obtained our own domain name making it easier for members and friends to find our web site, and interact with members.   Our small club continues to grow while entering into the new millennium.

Hope to see you on the water.......Be safe.
