The Fall of the Qin Dynasty

Above shows the tomb of Qin Shihuang at Mount Li (near Xian)

Buried together with Qin Shihuang were some of his concubines. The workmen and artisans who built the tomb were also buried because they knew the secrets of the tomb.

After Qin Shihuang fell ill and died at the age of 50 in 210 B.C., the Qin Dynasty fell quickly. His strict laws and punishments had made his rules very unpopular. Furthermore, the son who succeeded him could not stop the unrest which broke out after Qin Shihuang's death. Faced with peasant uprisings and revolts by the nobles, Qin Shihuang's son finally committed suicide. The throne then passed to his nephew who ruled for only 46 days before surrendering to the rebels in 206 B.C.
