Heian Shodan: Peaceful Mind Number One

This is a basic walk through of the kata for those that have practiced the kata but need some friendly reminders. 

Shizentai - Ready Position

Turn head to the left

Step to the left into Hidari Zenkutsu-Dachi, Gedan Barai (left forward stance, down block)

Step forward into Migi Zenkutsu-Dachi, Oi-Tsuki (right forward stance, lunge punch)

Turn 180 degrees to Migi Zenkutsu-Dachi, Gedan Barai (right forward stance, down block)

Draw your right foot back, Migi Tettsui Uchi (right circle strike)

Step forward into Hidari Zenkutsu-Dachi, Oi-Tsuki (left forward stance, lunge punch)

Withdraw left foot and turn 90 degrees to the left to Hidari Zenkutsu-Dachi, Gedan Barai (left forward stance, down block), followed immediatley with Hidari Jodan Age Uke (left rising block)

Step forward into Migi Zenkutsu-Dachi, Jodan Age Uke (right forward stance, rising block)

Step forward into Hidari Zenkutsu-Dachi, Jodan Age Uke (left forward stance, rising block)

Step forward into Migi Zenkutsu-Dachi, Jodan Age Uke and deliver a Kiai (right forward stance, rising block and spirit yell)

Step up with your left foot and turn 270 degrees to the left into Hidari Zenkutsu-Dachi, Gedan Barai (left forward stance, down block)

Step forward into Migi Zenkutsu-Dachi, Oi-Tsuki (right forward stance, lunge punch)

Turn 180 degrees to Migi Zenkutsu-Dachi, Gedan Barai (right forward stance, down block)

Step forward into Hidari Zenkutsu-Dachi, Oi-Tsuki (left forward stance, lunge punch)

Withdraw left foot and turn 90 degrees to the left to Hidari Zenkutsu-Dachi, Gedan Barai (left forward stance, down block)

Step forward to Migi Zenkutsu-Dachi, Oi-Tsuki (right forward stance, lunge punch)

Step forward to Hidari Zenkutsu-Dachi, Oi-Tsuki (left forward stance, lunge punch)

Step forward to Migi Zenkutsu-Dachi, Oi-Tsuki and deliver a Kiai (right forward stance, lunge punch and spirit yell)

Step up with your left foot and turn 270 degrees to the left into Hidari Kokutsu-Dachi, Shuto-Uke (left back stance, knifehand block)

Step 45 degree to Migi Kokutsu-Dachi, Shuto-Uke (right back stance, knifehand block)

Turn 135 degrees to Migi Kokutsu-Dachi, Shuto-Uke (right back stance, knifehand block)

Step 45 degree to Hidari Kokutsu-Dachi, Shuto-Uke (left back stance, knifehand block)

Close, draw left foot back to Shizentai

Points to remember:
- Keep your focus
- Preparation position (stretching) before each motion
- Hip position - square and hanmi
- Maintain good elbow awareness
- Keep your height the same throughout kata
- Keep you back leg locked when in Zenkutsu-Dachi and Bent while in Kokutsu-Dachi
- Start and finish on the same spot
