Joining Durendal Fencing Club

There is a one-time initiation fee of $25, and dues are $15 for 90 days or $50 annually. The $25 initiation fee is waived for UW students who join the club for either six months ($30) or one year ($50). Everyone who joins Durendal receives a club patch and free handouts on fencing techniques, and is eligible to vote in club elections. The club secretary maintains a file of catalogs from equipment companies for members who wish to purchase their own equipment. Some of these companies give our members a discount when equipment is purchased through the club.

Current Membership

There are about 35 or so active members, of whom up to about 10 to 15 might show up on a given evening. Our fencers include beginners, intermediate-level, and advanced fencers in all three weapons. Currently we have a nice mix of foil, epee and sabre fencers with epee being emphasized among the older fencers and sabre among the younger ones. A few members train exclusively in rapier-and-dagger and other historic weapons. Many of our fencers are recreational; about four of us compete regularly at the local, regional, or national level. Our highest-rated member holds a "C" in women's epee.
