The Captain. Part man, part myth. Whatever Steve Yzerman is or isn't, this much is true-he's all hockey player.
My name is Mike Chaput and I'm 23 years old. Following the Red Wings and Steve Yzerman has been my passion for the last 13 years. I've been with them through thick and thin, from the humiliating seasons, to the embarrassing loss to the San Jose Sharks, to finally 2 time Stanley Cup champs. Many people have come and gone throughout these years but there has always been one constant. Steve Yzerman.
Few pro athletes are as emotionally linked to their teams, their cities, as Steve Yzerman. As Jordan is to Chicago, Stevie is to Detroit. At the age of 18, Steve Yzerman was the youngest player to ever appear in an all-star game. He was the youngest captain in Red Wing history. At the age of 21, he was the only player on the Wings to show up at the NHL draft because of his dedication and his interest in the teams future. At that point Jacques Demers made the wise choice to make him the next Captain. To this date he sits 7th all time on the NHL point list.
