Simona has been nominated for Sportsperson of the Year- congratulations to Simona

Simona and Andreea have been giving passports so that they can travel anywhere in the world without a visa

Simona is returning theOlympic gold to Andreea Raducan at a formal celebration in Bucharest. Maria Olaru will pass the silver medal back to Simona

September 2000:

Simona is retiring. She says "It's important to know how and when to stop. I have decided to put an end to my activity as a sport performer." She originally said that she would stay in gymnastics until after the World Cup in December. She now wants to be a coach.

Simona reluctantly accepted her teammate, Andreea Raducan’s gold medal, after Andreea’s father told Simona that the medal should go to a Romanian. Simona said “I told the court the medal had no meaning to me as Andreea won it after years of hard work. I'll accept it because it belongs to Romania. But I'll know it belongs to Andreea. She's the Olympic champion."

May 2000: *Simona did a Yurchenko 2 1/2 at the Europeans!

 

*Simona celebrated her 20th birthday on the 7th of October
