My Story

I have played chess since I was 13 years old.  I started playing games against my friends in my form at school.  A year later I was playing for my school team at Sheringham High School.  In 1994 I was part of the team that won the Norfolk Schools Championship.

From 1994 until 1997 I entered the Norfolk Schools Individual Championship.  I came close to success in 1995 with a victory against the top seed Jo Badger in the first round.  In my time in Norfolk I played for the Fakenham Oddfellows Chess Team for 4 years.  At the club I learnt a lot of tactics and opening lines from the late Barrie Priestly who is responsible for a lot of my subsequent successes.  My most recent success in Norfolk came in April 2000 where I came joint third in the Norfolk Open Major Section without losing a game.

I have also jointly run a junior chess club in Stibbard near Fakenham. The school chess team achieved success finishing 3rd and then 2nd in the Norfolk Primary Schools Championship.  A number of the children I taught have gone on to play for the county junior teams.

From 1998 until the year 2000 I played for the University of Kent Chess Club.  As well as having an enjoyable Tuesday evening every week I achieved a number of good results in my last year.
