The Prioress
The Prioress wears the typical 14th century nun attire,
but she also wears a gold brooch with the letter A and a crown.
Underneath the A is inscribed the phrase "All things are subject unto love."
She wore the gold brooch even though it was forbidden for all
except the highest knights and nobility.
By continuing to wear it, she is showing how she is unable
to give up all of the luxuries of the social status she held
before becoming a nun.
On her arm she wore a rosary with coral and green beads.
A rosary is form of devotion to the Virgin Mary,
chiefly consisting of three sets of five decades each of the Hail Mary,
each decade preceded by the Lord's Prayer and ending with a doxology.
