Practice Nine -- Learning Environment
Creates and maintains positive learning environments in which students are actively engaged in learning, social interaction, cooperative learning and self-motivation.

The preprofessional teacher understands the importance of setting up effective learning environments and has techniques and strategies to use to do so including some that provides opportunities for student input into the processes.  The teacher understands that she/he will need a variety of techniques and are working to increase their knowledge and skills.

9.1--Cooperating teacher and university supervisor's assessment of student's ability to implement techniques that promote positive learning environments and apapt them to needs of particular students or situations.
9.2--Peer or instructor evaluation of demonstrations or written descriptions of directions for various types of instructional activities, physical environmental arrangements, motivational techniques, and/or strategies for obtaining student input and appropriate feedback in varied situations.

--Traditional classroom tests demonstrating knowledge of variety of recognized effective practices for creating and maintaining positive, task-oriented learning environments, including managing behavior, and providing appropriate feedback and reinforcement. 9.5--Written copy of rules, procedures, and standards that student intern develops with pupil input and implements for classes during internship. (Agric, Elementary, Music, Sp. Ed., English, Science, Math)
9.6--Student self-evaluation and stated goals for professional development in techniques and processes for creating and maintaining a positive climate for the classroom as a learning community. (Agric, PE, Sp. Ed.)
9.7--Anecdotal records fo student and/or cooperating teacher(s) on management of student behavior and maintenance of positive classroom environment. (Agric, Art, PE, Sp. Ed., English, Math)
9.8--Student self-evaluation of techniques used for creating and maintaining a positive learning environment and managing student behavior during internship experiences. (Science)
