Welcome to the home of the Kincardine Kippers Recreational Swim Team!

The only team in Kincardine that's truly 'in the swim' of things.

The Kippers practice on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the indoor pool of the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, from mid-April to mid-August. They also have a fun session in the fall, breaking for the winter.

Kippers range in age from under 8 up to 18 years of age. Team members hail from Kincardine, Tiverton, Ripley and have at times travelled from as far as Hanover and Lucknow to swim with the team. The only criteria for becoming a Kipper is that one must be able to swim the front crawl for at least one length of the pool, or 25 metres. As well, a swimmer must commit to swimming in one competitive meet during the season.

The Kincardine Kippers are members of the South Western Ontario Recreational Swimming Association. As such they compete against the town teams of Elmira, Walkerton, Hanover, Guelph, and Fergus. Swim meets are a fun time, where swimmers challenge themselves to do their best and contribute to their overall team results. It's a chance for swimmers and parents to travel to nearby towns, meet other swimmers and swimming fans, and make new friends.

Benefits of swimming have been well documented - a fitness level to rival that produced by any sport, the challenge of achieving personal goals on an individual level, the commaraderie of team competition, - but the benefits of being a Kipper are even more than that. Kippers make friends that last a lifetime. They learn team spirit and sportsmanship from the fine group of volunteer coaches and often go on to become coaches themselves.
