Clarence Seedorf

Netherlands and Inter Milan

Clarence Seedorf is one of the Netherlands biggest talents of the last years. He was educated at the famous Ajax school and is currently one of the best players in the world.

There's a lot to say about Clarence Seedorf. So young and so many prices. He started to play for Ajax Amsterdam at the age of 16 and became a valuable player at the age of 17, as he became a constant player for Ajax, He won the Champions League 1995 with Ajax and was already an international at the age of 18. 4 years later he already played over 40 caps for Holland. He played in EC England'96 and WC France'98 for Holland.

After Ajax, Seedorf moved to Sanmpdoria where he stayed only one year. Real Madrid bought him for 5.5 million pounds and he was one of the best payed players in Spain. He quickly became a firm favourite of the Bernabeu crowd for his thrilling runs forward. Excellent close ball control and busy support work behind the frontmen has made him an unsung hero. At Real Madrid he had problems with the fans and the coaches, but he was active for the team, he became Champions League winners in 1998 and he also won the Intercontinental cup with Real Madrid. At the end of December 1999 Inter Milan and Real Madrid had agreed to a transfer fee of 41 billion lire ($24.35 million) which saw him end his playing days at the famous club. Now he is currently playing for Inter milan. He already has two brilliant goals, one which saw Inter beat their rivals Ac milan 3-2 in the quarter finals of the Copa Italia.

Also at the Dutch team Seedorf had some troubles. Together with Kluivert, Bogarde, Reiziger and Davids they formed a 'strange' group(because they thought Hiddink favored white players), which costed Holland a good result at the EC Championship 1996. Seedorf tends to take responsibility for everything on the field. Generally that's a good thing, but Seedorf has missed about three penalties for Holland.

Now he's part of an excellent generation Dutch players, who could win the European Championship 2000, as they co-host it with Belgium. Seedorf will play in the midfield with Davids, R. de Boer, Overmars and Cocu. His game can change a match open, but it can also turn it for the worse. I see him as the next Dutch record cap holder and also as a stable factor in their team in the rest of his career.

At the Euro 2000, he will be looking forward to shine and play his best football, because of the missed spot kick in world cup 98 and euro 96. He has the confidence to do it.
