The CTA was formed in 1986 by Grandmaster Derman B. Hodge, Sr., in Florence, SC, to unite practitioners of the traditional ITF style of TaeKwon-Do.

Hosin-Do Tae-Phung Kwan translates from Korean to English as "The Way of Self-Defense-Great Storm School." It is also known as "The Cyclone Style of Self-Defense." Cyclones (Hurricanes) are huge systems of storms concentrated around a central eye.

These storm-systems are among the most powerful forces in Nature.
