The Story

When Vanessa was young, she had dreams of becoming a cheerleader. Vanessa's mother, Nanette, thought about teaching her daughter tennis becuase she was an instructor. Nanette says that becuase of Vanessa's size she thought about ice skating or gymnastics. The Atler's couldn't afford ice skating. When she discovered her tumbling ability she decided to do gymnastics. Vanessa loved her gymnastics classes. Her mother said she would have her leotard on an hour before class even started. Vanessa hasn't looked back. She has been progressing rapidly. She started gymnastics when she was 5 and fell in love with the sport. Even then she had dreams of being an Olympian. She started training at AV Twisters in Palmdale. She flew through level five right up to elite. When she became an elite her coach at the Twisters sent Vanessa the Glider's gym to get a new floor routine. Vanessa never left the Glider's. Jamie who was also at the Twister's gym decided to switch to the Glider's as well. They were the Glider's first Elite Gymnasts. Vanessa's parents didn;t even know what Elites was until Vanessa kept climbing through the levels. Jamie and Vanessa have the best relationships with their coaches. That is probably the reason for Vanessa's sucess. Vanessa's family is very supportive. They hate seeing Vanessa come hom,e from practice depressed, but Vanessa always bounces back. She is the most promising gymnast in the USA. I wish Vanessa the best of luck and be injury free. Vanessa knows she can't rest on her sucess. She still trains hard and knows it won't be easy. Keep your eye on Vanessa. She still has some great perfomances to give. She is great in and out of the gym. She takes time to respond to her fans. She has her own webstie. She personally responds to each letter she gets. She is truly an American Champion!!

Vanessa is truly a great talent. She has vaulted to the top of the United States and even the world. In 1997 she was National Champion, but recently she just placed second at the French Telecom. She was second to Sveltlana Khorkina. She beat out girls like Simona Aminar, Victoria Karpenko, Elvire Teza, and Ludivine Furnon. Vanessa has been hampered by recent injuries. She has broken a finger and badly sprained her ankel. She says she is recoverying nicely. This year will be her greatest wrold test. She is finally old enough to go to the World Championships.I am positive she will be on the team.
