WGI's primary activity is Winterguard Competitions but it also services percussion ensemble competitions. WGI coordinates the definition of rules, judging criteria, judges training, and also sponsors regional competitions throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. The competition season for Winterguard and Percussion runs from late January into April. The World Championships is usually held in the first two weeks of April.
