Orlando Magic
Two For One Deal
Magics acquire Harper and O'Bannon
The Orlando Magics are starting all over. There is no more Shaq, no coach
Hill or coach Adubato and now no 3-D - Dennis Scott. The Orlando Magics,
under the coaching of Chuck Daly, traded away their three point threat,
Dennis Scott, to the Dallas Mavericks for guard Derek Harper and Forward Ed
O'bannon. The team chose to trade away Scott because of some off season
problems.
By acquiring Harper the Magics get a veteran point guard. Harper
is a consitant player. You ask yourself, but wait a second, what about
Anfernee Hardaway. Now that Harper is in the point guard position the
Magics are going to move Hardaway to the shooting guard position. It will
be hard, but by moving Hardaway there he may get more shot attempts and he
won't have to worry about controlling the offense and making baskets.
With O'bannon the Magics have a possible star. O'Bannon was the
ninth overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft. He was drafted by the Nets and
in the middle of last year got traded to the Mavericks. O'Bannon had so
much potential, leading his team, UCLA, to a NCAA Championship and winning
the 1995 John Wooden award. O'Bannon averaged 20.4 ppg at UCLA, but in his
NBA career has only averaged 5.0 ppg.
