Cal Ripken Jr. was born on
August 24, 1960 in Harve De Grace
Maryland and grew up in Aberdeen, Maryland. He
went to Aberdeen High School. While
playing baseball for
the high school he earned All-County
and All-State honors.
He graduated Aberdeen High School in
1978.
He was selected 48th by the Orioles in
the June free agent
draft. He was drafted up to the Orioles
team and started his
first game at 3rd base at the age of
21. That June he was
moved to shortstop. He was voted
American League
Rookie of the year that year. The next
season he was voted
American League Most Valuable Player of
the year. He was
also voted Major League Player of the
Year. And he was
also able to be a part of the 1983
World Series. That Worl
Series the Baltimore Orioles became the
1983 World
Champions. Cal has recieved 9 silver
slugger awards. He
has been named Orioles MVP 4 times. The
1990 season
was the year Cal recieved the Golden
Glove award by
playing 95 consecutive games without a
error. In 1995 he
completed 2,131 consecutive games
breaking a major league
record. Currently he has played around
2,600 consecutive
games.
