Alex Ramírez founded the McAllen Knights Rugby Club in June of 1992 in the hottest friggin' place on earth, the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. (I think that all rugby matches in Texas should be played at night before we all die of heat stroke). McAllen's first appearance took place in the 92-93 season under the Texas Rugby Union. The Knights have played all over Texas and in some parts of Mexico including Mexico City, Guanajuato, and Irapuato. |

Legend has it that the our team name was chosen by our founder, when a vision came to him in a dream of a band of colorfully clad knights who raped and pillaged their way across the southwest, conquering all other colorfully clad men who would dare to rise against them. (Maybe an acid flashback to his younger days). However, the name seems appropriate for a small group of vagabonds who hail from a faraway land. |

We're a young team on the rise. (For a young team we sure seem to have a bunch of old guys). Our level of play has steadily improved and has almost equaled the level of our partying. Our home field is in great condition and lies within a fifteen minute drive to Mexico, and a one hour drive to South Padre Island. We are excellent hosts and would be interested in proving our hospitality to any rugby club that finds itself in this part of the world. |
