About the Team

The Port Perry Angels Bantam team was formed in the year 1996. Most of the players were from a broken up Oshawa team. We weren't allowed in the N.Y.W.S.L. (North York Women's Softball League), so we became a tournament team. The first year wasn't so great. We only one maybe 2 tournaments and we didn't qualify for the Provincials. The 1997 year was quite different. We picked up some players from other teams (including Eryn Ramsay, and Lisa Foresta) and we lost some. But that year was going to be different. We were better and we won some tournaments and we even qualified for the Provincials by capturing the Silver medal at the Provincal Qualifying Tournament in Ottawa. So off we went to the Provincials and well...lets just say we had fun. And that's the most important thing about fastball. This season (1998) has been the best season of all. We have placed in 9 of the 14 tournaments we have been in. 6 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze. Which is pretty Darn good. This team is made up Grade A players. Our 2 pitchers can be relied on at any time of the game. Our infield is solid and our outfielders get the ball in with speed and accuracy. This year was also a transition year. Mostly everyone on the team was new. The only remaining from the season before were Lisa Foresta, Krystin Manweiler, Danielle Allison, and Eryn Ramsay. And the only remaining from the original '96 team was Danielle and Krystin and coach Ron Allison) We got 3 from from Whitby, (Holly Harris, Melissa McCartney, and Chrissy Dow) and their coach. (Bert Harris) We got 3 from Stouffville (Rene Ansell, Jacky Derasmo, and Marlee Johnson) and their coach. (Bill Johnson) We also had a player from Newmarket but in her own interests she decided not to stay with us:-( This upcoming weekend will be the 1998 Ontario Summer Games in which our team will be competing in. Wish us Luck! Well, we're back and you'll never guess what happened. WE WON BABY!!!! Unlike last year when we lossed out in our first two games we actually won. We arrived at the University of Guelph a little overwhelmed if not even a little intimidated by all the athletes looking to kick our butts. We found our rooms after about a half an hour of walking through halls that looked exactly alike. Walking in the parade to the opening ceremonies Lisa Foresta muttered that she's got "a good feeling" about the weekend. We had only 10 players so if one of us had gotten hurt we would have had to forfeit but I believed her. Our first game was against St. Catherines. We had lost to them in a previous tournament so we all went in the game feeling strong except our catcher Eryn Ramsay whom had a high fever. After winning 7-1 and returning back to the dorms Eryn unfortunately fell ill from dehydration and was sent to the hospital. Lisa still had that "good feeling" though. Needless to say Eryn returned the next morning to help us defeat Brampton B. Next we had to face Brampton A. I admit that I myself went into the game thinking we weren't going to win but the second we started to hit I knew we had a chance. I guess you could say that I was trying to live off Lisa's feeling. Our outfield was sharp, our infield didn't let anything by and our pitching held us together. When the final out was made we all screamed and the stands were going nuts. We made it to the Eastern Canadians. The next day we faced Brampton once more to defeat them 4-2 for the gold. Our pitcher Holly Harris recieved the pitchers award for the tournament. We will be flying to Nova Scotia in two weeks. All I can say is that I hope Lisa has a good feeling!
