The rampaging Rhinos rolled into Booval at the Bakerdome keen to register their first CoalBowl victory. On the wave of some gutsy wins, they had the Bluebirds deeply concerned about their chances of also winning a CoalBowl title.
The game started with some tough defence which saw both teams turn over the ball, but it was the lethal combination of Young and Miller who scored the only touch down of the first quarter. Moon having been intercepted early in the game and lacking confidence against the Rhino defence, took a back seat to running back Robert Smith who caused the Rhinos a lot of problems with the ground he gained.
A devastating 2nd quarter performance from the Bluebirds saw them pile on 21 unanswered points, with smith making plenty of yards and scoring on 2 occasions. This laid the foundation for a Bluebird win, which was aided by a lot of fortunate calls and uncharacteristic drops and fumbles from the Rhinos.
The Bluebirds coach stated that the score flattered his team and that the Rhinos aerial defence was very intimidating, as was their ability to make long yardage quickly. He was also relieved to finally snare a title after being beaten in the first Coal Bowl, where he coached the Baltimore Ravens who were defeated by Steve baker's Seahawks.
