                                                      WORLD  CUP  1975
    
     The first World Cup in 1975, marked the beginning of  interest in One Day Internationals. The tournament, played as the Prudential Cup in England, had the six Test playing nations (England, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies, India and Pakistan), joined by Sri Lanka and East Africa, battle it out for a place in the history of cricket. The Finals were played at the Lord's between Australia and West Indies, with the latter winning the game with a margin of 17 runs. Clive Llyod, the Captain of the West Indies was declared the man of the match for his brilliant century.  
  
                         WORLD  CUP  1979 

   Clive Llyod led the West Indies to victory yet again in 1979 Prudential Cup, with a margin of a whopping 92 runs. The Finals played between West Indies and England, played at the Lords, was marked by two stunning performances by Viv Richards at his most majestic with the bat, and Joel Garner ripping through the England batting just when it looked as they might have a chance. Richards made an unbeaten 138, supported by a hard hitting 86 from Collis King. The West Indies side were worthy winners, with one of the strongest one day sides of all time, balanced between aggressive batting, and fast accurate bowling. 

 
                                                         WORLD  CUP  1983
  
  
 
 The underdogs of the 1983 Prudential Cup, India, took the world by surprise when they lifted the Cup, beating the two-time champions West Indies. Led by Kapil Dev, India set the Lords ground ablaze, taking on the mighty West Indians. Mohinder Amarnath was declared the man of the match for his brilliant performance, both with the bat and the bowl, leading the Indian team to victory. The game was won by a good margin of 43 runs against the formidable skipper, Clive Llyod and his team of all rounders
 
                                                          WORLD  CUP  1987
  India and Pakistan jointly hosted the Reliance Cup, won by the Aussies against English with a narrow margin of 7 runs. The old time enemies came face to face for the first time in a closely contested final world cup match. The Eden Gardens saw two of the worlds greatest captains Allan Border and Mike Gatting battle it out for the coveted cup. The Australians put up an excellent performance with brilliant players like, David Boon, Steve Waugh, Geoff Marsh, Dean Jones, and Allan Border himself 
  
        WORLD  CUP  1992
   The Benson & Hedges Cup was lifted by the well deserving Pakistan team at MCG, Melbourne. They defeated England by a margin of 22 runs. The Pakistani team was led by the fiery Imran Khan. Beginning on a shaky start, the team recovered in a great style to beat New Zealand which topped the lead table with eight wins out of nine matchesin semifinals. In finals too, though the Pakistanis were a pathetic 34 for 2 in 16 overs, the Imran Khan and Javed Miandad partnership helped the team post a decent total of 249 for 6, which later on proved to be clincher. Overall, the performances of Wasim Akram in bowling and Inzamam-ul-Haq, are worth remembering. 
  
                                                      WORLD  CUP  1996
 
      The World Cup hosted for the second time by India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka jointly, will be remembered for the infamous boycotting by West Indies and Australia alleging that the Sri Lankan venues was unsafe. The Wills Cup was contested by 12 teams, the largest number so far. Sri Lankans created history on the Gaddaffi Stadium, Lahore, by defeating the mighty Australians. The victory came easy with a memorable performance from Aravinda de Silva,
who hit an unbeaten century, and together with Captain Arjuna Ranatunga steered the side to victory. The Cup will also be remembered for the performances of Sri Lankan master blaster, Sanath Jayasuriya, who eventually won the Player of the Tournament award.
 
                   WORLD  CUP  1999
 
 
           The last world cup of this Millennium was hosted by England. The world cup was given the name ICC world cup. 12 teams participated in this world cup. The semi final between  South Africa and Australia was just unforgettable. The final of the World cup 1999 was played between 1987 world cup champion Australia and 1992 world cup champion Pakistan. On that day, Australia created a history at Lords, by defeating Pakistan. Pakistan batted first and bowled out for just 132 runs which is also the lowest total ever made in the world cup final. Australia easily  achieved  the target and get the crown of the "WORLD CUP CHAMPION 1999".
