The following are documents related to the 53rd PVI,. They are dated 1862 & 1863 and include a certification of entry into a convalescent camp & authorizations to the paymaster for the deductions from his pay in order for payment of the 53rd Pa. Sutler. Joseph Spang mustered in September 18, 1861 with Co. A of the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was promoted to Corporal and the Sergeant on April 1, 1865. He mustered out with his Company June 30, 1865 and was classified as a veteran.
