July 1998 Web History

FRIDAY 7/31/98 12:52 PM
I've been very busy working on the web site again today. First of all, I have begun to make all of the quotes in the archive in bold, so that they stand out from the speaker of the quote etc. This will take me a while to do, but I will hopefully finish it soon. Also, I have posted my Forms Tutorial, if anybody wants to take a look at it. There are lessons in there for the beginner, and the advanced form user, so have fun! Finally, I just wanted to advise everyone that they should use Internet Explorer 4, or at least IE 3. I was once deadset on using Netscape, but I have seen the light. This site, as well as many others, has been made for IE, and if you don't view the site with IE many things may look different, and you will not get most of the style sheet effects. I personally have both browsers, but I think that everybody should have IE - the internet seems to be divided 50-50 with the two different browsers.

THURSDAY 7/30/98 7:39 PM
I had alot of time today, so I managed to get alot done. First of all, I added style sheets to the index page, and I may consider adding them to other pages later. All links no longer have underlines, but are bolded. When you move the mouse over them they well turn yellow and become underlined. Secondly, I am currently playing around with pop-up windows. If you scroll down to the menu, and click on one of the new, red buttons, you will see what I mean. I hope to add more of those, and add more substantial information in them. Hope you like all of the changes!

WEDNESDAY 7/29/98 2:43 PM
The Hall of Fame poll will be coming to a close shortly. For you interest I have posted the Hall of Fame Rules for the site, you might find them interesting. Also, out of necessity, I have posted the rules for the contest also. I would advise anyone participating in the contest to take a peek at them.
5:25 - I have just completed the Baseball World Search Engine. Check it out because I'm looking to add sites into the engine, and it could mean generating a ton of hits for your baseball site!

TUESDAY 7/28/98 4:46 PM
I've added a bunch of more injuries to the list of strange injuries. Expect another update later today.
5:11 - I'm already done the other update! First of all, I created the page for the Player of the Week archives. Also, the new (10th) penguin is up finally, so enter the contest to win! The leaderboard was also updated today.

MONDAY 7/27/98 6:48 PM
This week's Player of the Week is up so check it out! I'm sorry that I've been neglecting the contest a bit lately, but I've been so busy. I'll try to get the next penguin up tomorrow, or maybe even tonight if I feel motivated. The HOF poll will be coming to a close soon, so get your vote in if you haven't yet. I will also be busy with that as I will be preparing shrines for the player(s) that are inducted. If you have anything you would like included in a players shrine, just email it to me.

SUNDAY 7/26/98 3:09 PM
The RealAudio section is expanding rapidly now, to the point that I have turned it into a Multimedia section instead. There nearly 10 new WAV files now, and I hope to continue to add more. Don't worry about broken links either, because they're all on my server.

SATURDAY 7/25/98 1:14 PM
The site has gone through another slight change -- again. This time I moved the poll and signup for the mailing list beside the daily updates. Also, to accomodate this, I will most likely only be displaying the two most recent updates, as opposed to three. Hope you like it. Email me with your comments. On another note, I have just added 2 speeches to the RealAudio section. Hope you enjoy them!

WEDNESDAY 7/22/98 2:56 PM
The 9th penguin in the contest is now up, so enter now for a chance to win. Quotes was also updated today. In other news, I will have a bit more time to update now that I have finished my CL training. I am now officially a Colosseum Community Leader. Keep those votes coming for the hall of fame poll (vote only once please). We're nearly at the 100 mark, and Babe Ruth and Pete Rose are going neck to neck. Also, please email me your comments about the new Player of the Week section. I would really like some feedback.

TUESDAY 7/21/98 12:32 PM
I just finished adding a new section to Baseball World. Each week I will make a selection for who I believe to be the Player of the Week. The player for the week will be placed at the top of the page, in between the HR watch, and the Fastball ticker, as you may have noticed. If you have seen the picture already, you will know that this weeks POW (Player of the Week) is Albert Belle, so check it out. Please email me all of your questions and comments about this new feature. Hope you like it!

MONDAY 7/20/98 2:31 PM
I have replaced my HR leaders at the top of the page with The Race to 61 courtesy of All Time Sports. Now I won't have to update the homerun leaders each day, and that will give me more time to update other areas of the site. Also, I have recently been receiving the same questions over and over again, and am considering creating an FAQ. I'll see if I get any more questions, and if I have time I'll make the FAQ.
3:57 PM - Quotes was updated today

SUNDAY 7/19/98 8:41 PM
I haven't had much time to update today. However, Baseball World has won yet another award. This time we received an A from the CCC! A very prestigious award that I'm proud of. I'll try to get some more updating done tomorrow when I have some time.

WEDNESDAY 7/15/98 2:20 PM
Sorry about no update yesterday, but the Geocities file manager kept crashing on me. What I had wanted to tell you is that since I created a new index page for the layout, the Best of Geocities lost record of my site. As a result, we must start all over again, to reclaim the #1 spot. I'm surprised how quickly we're advancing, the site is already ranked 6th or 7th. Just a week or so until we reclaim the #1 spot again. I've been fairly busy lately, so the updates have been few. Also, I am starting my training to be a Geocities CL (Community Leader). Wish me luck!
3:06 PM - I decided to put the next penguin in the contest up today. Enter to win!
4:26 PM - I have posted the franchise histories for the Texas Rangers, and the Colorado Rockies, thus completing them all! (Well, except for Tampa Bay and Arizona, but they don't have a history yet)

MONDAY 7/13/98 2:06 PM
Not much updating to do today. Keep those entries coming for the contest. I'm possibly going to make some temporary changes to the layout of the site on a trial basis. The changes will be very small, but I will probably put a form for your comments. I might get this done tonight, it depends on how much time I have. Also, if you haven't noticed yet, I am currently ranked as the #1 baseball site on all of Geocities! I accept this honour with great pride, but I must thank all of my faithful visitors for helping me to achieve this honour.
7:53 PM - I have made some changes on how the teams are displayed but I have made them final. There will be no changes back, I like how it looks now, and I hope you do to.

SUNDAY 7/12/98 9:58 AM
The penguin in the contest is up, so enter the contest to win! I also updated the leaderboard today. Another quote was updated today. Please email me if you see anything wrong with the quote randomizer on my site, I am suspicious that there may be a few glitches. Come back for a possible update later today.
5:58 PM - I finished the franchise history for the Seattle Mariners today.
6:14 PM - The franchise history for the San Francisco Giants is up also.
7:26 PM - I have already removed the players of the week section that I had next to the fastball ticker. I removed it because I figured that nobody really cared about the players of the week (at least I know I don't). To fill the void I have replaced it with something much for interesting, the homerun leaders in both leagues. I hope you like this, I will try to update it daily. This too may be tinkered with slightly in the upcoming days. I have also decided to move the homerun leaders and the fastball ticker to the top of the page so that they are the first thing that you see, and you no longer need to scroll down for them.

SATURDAY 7/11/98 12:15 PM
I changed my V3-URL around a little today. The URL to get to this site is still http://come.to/baseballworld. However I changed it so that you don't have to go to that redirecting page anymore - this should be much better for you. I am proud to say that Mario's Baseball World has won its 27th award, so you can check that out if you want. I finished the listing for another featured site today, today's team is the Toronto Blue Jays. Check out the site that got listed as the best Jays site on the net!

FRIDAY 7/10/98 4:50 PM
It was brought to my attention that there is a site on the internet that has already stolen my quote randomizer on the top of my page. I refuse to give out the URL to this site as this person may benefit with more hits and visitors. All I will tell you is that "The Un Unofficial Baltimore Orioles Site" (yes that's how it's spelled) was caught stealing my quote randomizer. This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated! If you ever go to this site, I strongly urge you not to. The webmaster at that site is a thief, and thieves never prosper. Please email him at scotts45@hotmail.com to tell him what you think about people who steal web content from others. On top of that, not only did he steal my quote randomizer, but he emailed me to tell me that the site I had chosen for the Baltimore Orioles featured site was no good, and that I should feature his site! Not in a million years! If you would like to use my quote randomizer on your site, please contact me first, and I would be happy to arrange an agreement that would satisfy both parties. I will keep you posted on any news of this sort that arrives. Finally, I won another award today. Check it out, it's the Cam Stewart's Baseball Site of the Month (for June). Also, quotes was updated today.

THURSDAY 7/9/98 10:59 AM
The new (5th) penguin was posted today, so enter the contest to win. Keep those votes coming in the new poll, I can't wait to start the Baseball World HOF. Finally, I am currently working on a script that will display random quotes from my archive on the main page - I just need to work out one small detail. If you are knowledgeble in JavaScript, please email me. Another update later today is a possibility.
2:55 PM - The random baseball quote displayer is finally up underneath the title bar. There will be a different quote each time you visit my site. So far, I have loaded around 115 quotes into the randomizer, but that is from only the first two letters of the alphabet! Expect many more to be added! I have also made the quotes that are displayed a link to the whole quote archive. Enjoy!
6:49 PM - I have just started a featured site program where I feature one site for each major league baseball team. This allows me to present to you a great site for each team, without me having to do the work to create the site. The first featured site award winner was, RipkenFanLand for a great site on the Baltimore Orioles. Check out their listing on the Baltimore Orioles team page.

WEDNESDAY 7/8/98 2:48 PM
I have finally taken down the poll. There were a total of 91 votes, one vote short of double the previous poll! Check out the poll results section to see how you all voted. Also, I have decided to go ahead with the Baseball World Hall of Fame. This Hall of Fame will be voted upon entirely by the visitors to this site. That way the inductees will be as fair as possible. I have nominated six players I feel worthy, and I know ask all of you to vote for the one you feel most worthy. The poll is below, so vote! The next penguin will be unveiled tomorrow. Also, another quote from Yogi Berra was added today.
3:26 PM - I have just finished adding a search engine that you can use to search through the entire quote archive! Check it out on the quote archive.
5:16 PM - I just received my 25th award from Jerk of the Week. Check the award out here.

TUESDAY 7/7/98 10:15 PM
Changes are continuing to take place. I have added a new bar for the AL, hope you like it. The bar for the NL should be up in the next couple of days. There are a few other small tinkerings on the main page that I'm sure you can find for yourself. Links was updated today also. Also, the current poll will probably be taken down any day now, so register your vote before it's too late. And as always, enter the penguin contest.

MONDAY 7/6/98 3:38 PM
There are a couple of things to report today. You probably have already noticed that there is a new and improved title bar today. That title bar was created by RipkenFan8 of RipkenFanLand. Thank you so much!!! Also, the fourth penguin of the contest has been posted today, so place your guess. You can even use the form now. There was a small glitch in the form, but I've fixed it now. Finally, the layout of Mario's Baseball World will probably be changing slightly in the next couple of days. There is always room for improvement!

SATURDAY 7/4/98 9:02 PM
Not to much to update today. Another quote from Yogi Berra was put up today. I also decided to update the leaderboard for the contest, so you can check that out too. I'm really beginning to like the new date bar, hope you do too.

FRIDAY 7/3/98 3:09 PM
A few things were updated today. Firstly, and most importantly, the new penguin is up, so email me the identity of the penguin. Also, I took down the all-star game voting link, as voting is now over. And as you've probably already noticed, there is a blue bar when the date line is so that it stands out more. Hope you like it! Finally, quotes was updated today.

THURSDAY 7/2/98 3:25 PM
Sorry about no update yesterday, but I was away at the cottage. I'm going to be pretty busy this month because I am currently taking a course. Don't worry though, I'll keep updating this site. Links was updated today with a couple of sites. Also, quotes was updated. Keep sending in your guesses for the contest, and if you have a baseball site, join my webring! (Scroll down the page to see the webring)
