Once again this year Gene Cherry in Raleigh, with help from others around the state, will be compiling a statewide high school outdoor track and field honor roll. As usual, it will be a listing of the top 10 men's and women's performers in the state. But please note the new e-mail and telephone numbers below.

The Internet version will be launched March 14, based on performances received by March 13, and will continue weekly. It will be available each Wednesday night at www.ncpreptrack.com

The newspaper version will begin in April. Like the Internet version, it will be compiled each Tuesday, beginning April 3, and will be released to The Associated Press on Wednesdays for newspapers to publish at their discretion on Thursdays or later.

Both versions will be compiled weekly and will continue through the state meets.

Coaches are asked to submit performances weekly to Gene. Please include first and last names and the date and location of the meet.

Information may be sent to Gene in the following manner:
1. By e-mail to nchonorroll@aol.com by 9 p.m. Tuesday for inclusion in that week’s listing. The earlier the better.
2. By fax to Gene Cherry’s attention at (919) 847-3796 by 9 p.m. Tuesday for inclusion in that week’s listings.
3. By telephone to Gene Cherry’s voice mail at (919) 847-3796 (same number as the fax) by 9 p.m. Tuesday. Please spell all names slowly and don't forget to include the school.

The News & Observer will not be running the honor roll this year, so please do not call its sports department with honor roll nominations. Do continue to call the newspaper with results if you live in The News & Observer circulation area.

Please report all performances in tenths of a second unless fully automatic timing has been used.

Gene also is compiling a directory of prep track coaches, so please send your name, title, school, mailing address and telephone and fax numbers to Gene.
