Competition Analysis
These are taken from competitions I have on tape of Claudita. If you would like to write an analysis, please e-mail me!
1994 Junior Europeans
Claudia began the all-around competition on floor. She performed a full-twisting double back, front handspring front full front flip, and a triple twist dismount well. On vault, her first 1/2 twisting Yurchenko was piked and had a poor landing, but her second had perfect form with only a slight hop on the landing for a 9.787. On bars, she performed a Geinger, and a stuck full-twisting double back dismount for a 9.725. On beam, however, her medal chances were shattered with a 9.187, the consequence of a fall on her two-foot layout. She also had slight balance checks on her Yang Bo and leap series, and a step on her double-back dismount.
In the event finals, Claudia began on vault. She performed her 1/2 twisting Yurchenko with good form, but had to take two steps back on the landing. Her full-twisting Yurchenko had good form, but she took a step back. She averaged a 9.662. On floor, however, Claudita scored a huge 9.85 to take take the floor title! She performed the same routine as in the AA, with the same ease.
Claudia leaps above the competition at the 1997 International Team Championships
1997 Romanian National Championships
Claudia began the competition on vault. She did a very nice Hristakieva, but had a hop on the landing. She scored a 9.3. On bats, Claudita had incredible precision and form. She absolutely nailed her dismount, and her score is not known. They joined her beam routine in progress, but we still saw a beautiful Yang Bo, a full turn, a fish jump to headspring, and a stuck double back dismount. The score is unknown, and they didn't show her floor. (What's up with this coverage?) Best of all, CLAUDITA WON THE ALL-AROUND!!!!
Apparatus finals was sad. They didn't show Claudita's winning uneven bars routine (someone write a petition letter to TVR) and they didn't show beam finals. We finally get to see Claudita's perfection again on floor where she scores a 9.763, enough for the silver.
1997 World Championships-contributed by Lauren Holland
In the preliminary competition, Claudia competed well
despite having her right ankle taped. Romania began
on vault, and Claudia performed two dynamic 1 ½
twisting Yurchenkos, with a hop to the left on each
attempt for a 9.593 average. On bars, she showed good
control on a 1 ½ twisting giant to bail handstand on
the low bar and a textbook giant-full to Gienger. Her
full-twisting double back dismount
uncharacteristically revealed messy legs and needed a
hop forward to the left, scoring 9.525. On beam,
Claudia had minor balance checks on several moves
including her full turn; hitchkick front headspring
combination; and ½ twisting fish jump. She also
hesitated between a ring jump, wolf jump, changements
combination; and a change leg split leap to a
Shushunova, losing the connection bonuses (I think).
However the rest of the routine went well and included
a unique mount of RO layout to two feet; perfect flik
flak, back flip, layout to two feet series;
spectacular change leg split leap (with head back);
and stuck double tuck dismount for a 9.187 score. On
floor, Claudia scored 9.662 for a routine set to music
that suited her well. She tumbled a double layout, 2
½ twist-punch front (stuck), double pike and a triple
twist (a bit short). Romania went on to take the
gold.
In the AA, Claudia performed a Hristakieva vault that
showed a nice laid out position throughout the air,
but needed a small step back. Her second vault was a
Yurchenko 1 ½ with a minor jump forward, a 9.443
average. On floor, she slightly under-rotated her
triple again, this time showing cris-crossed legs for
a 9.662 score. Her beam went well for 9.675, however
her bar routine scored only 8.937, thus erasing any
chance of a medal (it wasn't televised). She finished
in 8th position (37.717).
In the event finals, Claudia placed 5th (9.725) on
bars with a great routine. Her Gienger showed a small
leg separation, but she stuck her dismount, and was
very pleased. On floor, Claudia had a minor bounce
forward on both her double layout and double pike
somersaults. The major deduction came from her
under-rotated triple twist, and she finished 6th in
this strong field with a score of 9.600.
1997 Trophee Massillia
Claudia competed uneven bars in this event. The routine was OK, she kinda messed up her pirouette, and seperated her legs on her Gienger. She also didn't stick her dismount like she usually does, she had a tiny shuffle. She scored a 9.48.
1998 International Team Championships
On bars at the 1998 ITC, Claudia had a mini-disater. It all beagn when she kinda fell out of her 1 and 1/2 pirouette. But the big problem came after her Geinger. She placed her hands wrong, and she had to take an extra giant with bad form. She scored a 9.075. On beam, she had a wobble on her layout step-out mount, but afterwards, the only setbacks were tiny checks here and there. She also took a step back on her double-back dismount and thus scored a 9.55. We were cheated out of her floor exercise, (dang NBC!) but on vault, she showed two very nice 1 and 1/2 twisting Yurchenkos with only slight hops for a 9.525 average.
1998 European Championships
Claudia was not in top form here, which makes her bronze AA medal even more spectacular. She was pretty good on vault, though, vaulting her 1 and 1/2 twisting Yurchenkos with good form and only a step on the landing. On beam, Claudia had a lot of bobbles, and a wobble on the layout step-out mount. She also over-rotated her dismount for a 9.637. She was looking pretty good on floor, until she over-rotated her triple twist at the end of her routine, and stepped out of bounds. Her 9.612 moved her down from second to third. "I was happy with our team gold medal, but today all my focus was on winning the first individual all-around medal of my career." -- Claudia Presacan
1998 Arthur Gander Memorial
This was taken from Gymbox. " A fall on beam prevented her to win this meet. On floor she did a very high double layout. Bars: 9.550 Beam: 9.275 Floor: 9.600
2000 Olympic Games--contributed by Lauren Holland
In this competition, Claudia qualified second into the
beam final. She mounted with a unique chest stand and
performed an exceptional series of flik-flak,
backflip, layout to two feet, needing only a very
minor move of her left arm for balance. She connected
a change leg split leap (with head back) to a
Shushunova; a change leg split jump to tucked Korbut;
and a wolf jump to ¼ twisting Shushunova, all of which
was executed perfectly. Claudia demonstrated nice
variety on the compulsory full turn, by spinning
anticlockwise off her right leg. She almost stuck her
double tuck dismount, and it needed just a tiny step
back with one foot, the only major deduction of the
entire routine. She placed 4th with a 9.750 score.
