Safety First (Referee)

Unlike most sports the first duty of the Paintball referee is to ensure the safety of the players. They start and stop games, do paintchecks, and watch for rules infractions but their primary concern is the chronograph, goggles, barrel plugs, and field safety rules.

Whether it's a private game for newbies or a pro tournament the ref is there to keep it safe. A good ref will also have a good knowledge of the game rules and must be ableto confidently handle disputes in order to keep games running smoothly and fairly.

As a player you can help by always abiding by the ref's decision even if you are sure he is wrong.

The APA will be offering inexpensive referee training to members. Even if you never intend to ref a game the training can help you become a better player by improving your knowledge of the game and its rules.
