Groupwinners and best number 2 to Euro 2000. Other numbers 2 play playoffs against eachother for the last places. Holland and Belgium are automaticly qualified as hostcountries.

The European Championship in 2000 will be played from Saturday 10th June to Sunday 2th July. In 23 days the 16 participating countries will play 31 matches. After 24 poulematches the numbers 1 and 2 of each poule will advance to the quarterfinals. The sudden death (or Golden Goal) rule will be used. 15 matches will be played in Belgium and 16 in Holland. It's expected that about 1.2 milion visitors will attend the matches. Also in relative terms 7.000.000.000 people will watch the European Championship. That means an avarage of 225 million people each match. There will be tv crews with a complete number of 3500 people. 1300 journalists and 600 fotographers will also be present. Each match will be recorded by 16 different camera's and will be broadcasted in about 190 different coutries. The organising commitee Euro 2000 has 40 people working for them and that number will increase to 75 in March 1999. There will be 4000 volunteers helping the organisation during the Championship.
