Livingston Wolves
Coach: Butch Seifert (9-31, 5th year)
TOP RETURNERS: OL/DL Robert Soria, 5-10, 210; OL/DL Ronnie Jacobs, 6-4, 235; RB/LB Carlos Alvarez, 6-1, 190; WR/DB Noel Huerta, 5-11, 165; WR/DB Brad Kaji, 5-11, 150.
TOP NEWCOMERS: TE/LB Justin Harris, 6-2, 205; RB/LB Mike Affernio, 5-11 190; Lb Noe Cortez, 6-1, 190.
STRENGTHS: Numbers are up, way up. The roster is touching 50 players, one of Livingston's best turnouts in years. The lines will be solid with several strong players.
WEAKNESSES: All those new players are inexperienced. The Wolves also need a quarterback to assume the mantle of leadership, something desperatley needed. Livingston will also implement a fly offense this season, which could take a whole season just to master.

Livingston @ Hughson 10/09/98

Livingston beat Bret Hart 53-18, in a non-league season opener. Eric Cabral rushed for 3 tds and 156 yards. Livingston is using the fly offense this season.

After beating Bret Hart in the opener, Livingston was beaten by Le Grand and Escalon, but managed a one sided win over Orestimba 48-0. This game should be all Huskies. This is one of those games where we'll see everyone play. Plan on a happy homecoming again this year. Lupe's Prediction: Hughson

Hughson appears to have established a running attack to complement QB Kyle Lemings. That's not good news for Livingston. Prediction: Hughson

HUGHSON - Sophomore running back Heath Villarreal rushed for 190 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead Hughson to a 29-6 win over Livingston in a Trans-Valley League match on Friday at Hughson.

Villarreal put the Huskies (1-0 TVL, 3-2 overall) in the lead in the first quarter, scoring on a 52 yard pass from quarterback Kyle Lemings.

Hughson put the game qway in the second quarrter. Villarreal scored on a 23 yard run. Leming then hooked up with Colby Self on a 33 yard touchdown pass.

The Wolves (0-2 TVL, 2-3 overall) got on the board later in the game on a 21 yard touchdown run by Jesus Ramirez.

But Villarreal ended Livingston's hopes of a comeback by breaking free for a 66 yard touchdown run.

Self caught three passes for 49 yards and intercepted a pass to set up a Hughson score. Lemings completed six of 12 passes for 66 yards.

Lupe's View

The Huskies running game is now at full go. Heath Villarreal looked like the dominant back we all knew he could be. Villarreal rushed 13 times for 190 yards and scored 3 tds, on runs of 23 & 66 yards, and a 52 yard pass. Villarreal now has gained 488 yards on 71 carries, and averaging 6.7 yards per carry.

Colby Self had another fine night catching 3 passes for 49 yards. Self now has 18 receptions for 449 yards on the season, averaging 25 yards per catch.

The Husky defense held Livingston to a stingy 134 yards of total offense. Tonight Luke Avila returned to his linebacker spot after sitting out last week with a twisted knee. Once Avila warmed up his knee it was like he was never hurt. Jerry Crisco continued his fierce play at the other linebacker spot. Crisco is the leading tackler for the Huskies, followed by Avila.

Kyle Lemings had a bit of a tough night against a Livingston team that did a good job of covering the pass. Lemings ran out of the shotgun on several occasions and didn't seem comfortable out of that formation. The shotgun hasn't really looked good at all this year, with two snaps going over the qbs head. Mike Traveo has a little better luck running the shotgun, but when we do use it, it seems to take the offense out of sync.

The league title seems to be up for graps this year, with as many as 5 contenders.    On the whole the Huskies looked like a contender for the TVL title. The league title seems to be up for graps this year, with as many as 5 contenders. I really like the Huskies chances, I still think that Hilmar has a chance and then maybe Ripon. The boys from Escalon have had a pretty soft non-league scedule and lost to the only decent team they played, Summerville. And Summerville has had 3 losses since. Next week we play a tough Patterson team, that beat Hilmar 21-7. Patterson is always a wildcard in the league, beating teams they shouldn't, and losing to weaker teams. On any given night Patterson can beat anyone in the league. I just wonder which Patterson shows up.
