Bi-Monthly Fun Races

The Las Vegas Bay MacGregor Association 10th Annual Founders' Day Cup Race on Saturday, March 22, 2008, Callville Bay, Lake Mead, NV.

This is a fun race with NO formal racing penalties assessed, but with common sense "Rules of the Road" being observed. Any sailboats is eligible to enter and the Commodore will assign appropriate handicaps per boat at the Captains' meeting.

Give me information about your arrival so we can meet you before the race. I plan to launch my 96' MacGregor 26X, "FOREVER" on Friday, before the race. I will overnight at a cove in Callville Bay. You should see our masts as you leave the marina tire jetty either just to the East or West side of Callville Bay Marina. The courtesy dock fee at Callville Bay Marina $15 / day for boats, and is assessed after 11 PM. If you need more information contact me at captkimo01@yahoo.com. Due to the low water level of Lake Mead we are conducting the races from Callville Bay Marina for easier launching at their ramp rather than Las Vegas Bay, which is closed.

Winner of 10th LVBMA Founders' Day Cup Race in 2008 was the Macgregor 26D "Fun With Son"

Winner of the 10th "LVBMA 2008 BITTER end" award goes to two time winner, Captain Kimo.

Mark your calendar for March 28, 2009 for the 11th Annual LVBMA Founders' Day Cup Race, Callville Bay, Lake Mead NV. Hope to see you all there.

RE: SAILING RALLY for FALL FLOTILLA SAIL, REVISED TO OCTOBER 24-31, 2008 Assembly at Callville Bay (12 mi East of Junction 147/167 on Lake Mead Drive / Northshore Scenic Drive, Lake Mead NV)

Courses for legs for a sailing rally for the "Fall Flotilla Sail", at Lake Mead NV. Mark time when your boat's transom passes within 50 feet (two boat lengths) of a safe passage by a navigation buoy. Open to additional suggestions. Here is revision from comments received so far:

Leg 1: BOULDER BASIN: Passing CB-A at the entrance to Callville Bay TO the end of Flamingo Reed (RED marker "12"on the Point above the reef) prior to first turn on Western End into the Narrows. *

Leg 2: VIRGIN BASIN: Passing Yellow Lake Depth recording buoy outside of the Eastern End of the Narrows TO rounding the SW headlands and in line with NE headlands tips of Middle Point Bay.*

Leg 3: Passing a line between SW and NE headlands tips of Middle Point Bay TO either (Wind direction and strength dependent): 3.A. OVERTON ARM: Green Marker "13" on Big Horn Island, outside Echo Bay. 3.B. TEMPLE BASIN: Red Buoy "34" off Heron Point, Temple Bar Bay

Leg 4: GREGG BASIN: Passing Red Buoy "46" off Channel Reef, Gregg Basin TO Red Marker "54" Sandy Point, Gregg Basin.

* Leg 1& 2 to be completed on the same day. Only reason for the break is to allow the option to motor through the “Narrows” between Boulder Basin and Virgin Basin. With the blind turns, high speed motor boat traffic, and the wind gusts in the narrows, motoring through the “Narrows” is the safer option.

Sailing Skills Day

Due to the unique nature of our Association, we will use any day we have two or more boats out as a Sailing Skills Day. Provided that the two skippers agree. Also for those without boats, any time we go out we post a notice to the message board at Las Vegas Bay MacGregor Association yahoo group site. Everyone is Welcome! If we have people on board that want to improve their sailing skills, we will be more than happy to do so at that time.

Welcome to New Members the First Saturday of every Month, but contact one of the LVBMA Commodores to confirm we will be out at Calliville Bay on the proposed date.
