Las Vegas Bay MacGregor Association 2007 Founders' Day Cup Race

Start of the 9th Annual LVBMA Founders' Day Cup Race at Navigation Buoy CB-A, Callville Bay Entry, Lake Mead NV.

Ahoy Shipmates of Las Vegas Bay MacGregor Association:

April 28, 2007, Callville Bay, Lake Mead NV site of the 9th Annual Las Vegas Bay MacGregor Association FoundersÕ Day Cup Race.

As Second Commodore and Race Cooridinator, I feel it is incumbent upon me to give an unbiased commentary of the Ninth Annual LVBMA Founder's Day Cup Race.

The Captain's meeting with the Second Commodore was held earlier at the overnight cove SouthWest of the Callville Bay Marina tire jetty and later at 0800 hrs at the courtesy dock. GPS time hacked and course maps were given to all. Maps showing the race course Start/Finish Line from the Naviagation Buoy "CB-A" and Closest Point of land ( NW shore with a rock with black/white stake), Westerly for a Port rounding of Battleship Rock, return to Start/Finish Line. The only restriction being NO SPINNAKERS.

At 10 minute before the start of the race, a 2 short blast warning horn sounded at 0920 hr by the Second Commodore. At 5 minute before the start, 1 short blast warning horn sounded at 0925 hr. At 0930 hr the race started with the sounding of SEVERAL LONG BLAST WARNING HORN. The usual confusion at the start of the race with the light wind drifting over the starting line.

The start of the race was in very light winds, which cause a drifting contest to the favorited end of the start line (Navigation Buoy ÒCB-A). Half the fleet headed for the middle of the lake. The other half headed for the North shore to catch the thermal winds off the land.

ÒFOREVERÓ finally headed for the North shore for the lift which "Three sheets and a Breeze" and "TIGER 1" had done earlier. Once in the lead "Three Sheets and a Breeze" radioed for "TIGER 1" to recover his hat. With such little wind it surely did not blow off, LOL. Suspect it was a ploy to annouce his position.
