Portland Cricket Club was the first local cricket club to use the name "Portland". The roots of this club can be traced back to local clubs in existence in Portland Oregon in the late 1890s. There are newspaper clippings in existence about cricket in Portland, dating from 1895. Cricket then somewhat faded. Cricket then had a comeback of sorts in the 1950s when regular matches were held between Reed College and Portland State University (PSU), with PSU mostly having the better of Reed College. In the 1960s cricket sort of faded again. The last big revival of cricket was in the early 1980s. This last revival has proved to be enduring. None of the current Portland teams were in existence before 1985. PCC, being one of the foremost clubs in the northwest, is also the holder of the 1996 Northwest Cricket Championship title. PCC was also the first club in the Northwest to register with the United States Cricket Association (USCA), the only recognized cricket body in the USA by the International Cricket Conference (ICC).
The founders of PCC were Sajjad Rasheed, Shaheryar Ahmed, Ahsan Ahmed, Mohsun Ghias, Amir Khan, Farhan Khan, Zargham Sohail, Fahim Rahman, Salman Afzal and Khalid Shafi.
