A Championship Season

We started in March to try and
get ready,
We’ll do OK if the pitching
is steady.
I’ll go on the mound with Nicole
and Ashley,
If I need more, Sarah and Manny.
Defense is key to hold down
the score,
Tara and Michelle have been
there before.
Behind the plate, Amanda is
best,
I’ll use Nikki and others to
give her a rest.
I think we’ll hit hard, we usually
do,
Jonni and Liz I think will come
through.
We need runners on base if we
are to score,
Brianna and Lauren will handle
that chore.
Rosie and Kayla will play outfield
positions,
Then Amber was added from the
younger division.
We practiced and practiced we’re
ready to play,
Here we come, it’s opening day.
We won the first game, the bats
were alive.
Jonni had 3 hits and 3 RBIs.
Other teams wore black but white
pants we wore,
Kayla brought lollipops, a tradition
was born.
Ashley pitched well the second
game that we won,
Rosie’s first hit drove in a
run.
Amber had 2 hits and 3 RBIs
While Ashley and Tara had 6
hits combined.
The next game was close we won
7 to 4,
Amanda scored 2 runs and drove
home 2 more.
We played super defense, Nicole
pitched all the way,
Amber and Lauren made big plays
on this day.
Came back the next day and won
it in five,
Bases were loaded when Liz caught
the line drive.
Lauren and Nikki with defense
we won,
Kayla had 2 walks and brought
home a run.
Then came the Friday you wanted
to dance,
Nicole threw a no hitter to
give you chance.
Michelle had a big day,
2 runs batted in,
Two put outs at second to give
us a win.
Game six came along, what can
we say,
We just had a really bad day.
Sarah and Brianna each had a
hit,
We lost the game but never did
quit.
We got back on track, that really
hot day,
We scored 25, Nikki led us the
way.
Three runs, three RBIs,
two put outs at third,
Amanda’s debut on the mound
was the word.
A Tuesday game under the lights,
We’re getting a storm sometime
tonight.
Send Nicole to the mound to
mow them down quick,
While Jonni and Sarah came through
with the stick.
Next game we won 20 to 9,
Tara and Michelle, the heroes
this time.
With outstanding defense we
can not be beat,
Ashley’s fourth win, without
a defeat.
21 to 6 is what the scoreboard
said,
We watched Jonni’s triple fly
high overhead.
Who could forget what Liz did
this day,
4 hits with 3 doubles, at third
2 big plays.
Next game was tied when the
fourth inning begun,
Kayla led off and scored the
big run.
With our big bats we pulled
way ahead,
Our plans now focused on the
team wearing red.
That was the game we won 6-5,
Jonni helped out with 3 RBIs.
Brianna’s bunt was a beauty,
right down the line,
Just needed 1 out to win it
this time.
Then Manny’s great catch, to
the fence with a slide,
We watched her get up with dirt
in her eyes.
The Championship was ours, the
season was done,
What an outstanding record 11
and 1.
Now we move on it is Tournament
time,
Rosie and Brianna scored 3 runs
combined.
Sarah took the mound and pitched
like a pro,
Leaving us with just one game
to go.
The Final was exciting, our
defense played well,
Thanks to Ashley, Tara and Michelle.
We seemed in control with Nicole
on the mound,
“El Duque” Mark cheered as 11
struck out.
It got really scary in bottom
of six,
Bases loaded - no outs,
we got out of the fix.
Extra innings we go, what a
great game,
Only one team can win, that
is a shame.
Nikki popped up, but we had
enough speed,
As Tara raced home to give us
the lead.
They scored a run and tied it
again,
I started to wonder if it would
end.
2 on and 2 out, tension continues
to mount,
Nicole with the bat, a 2 and
1 count.
The pitch came in, the ball
went for a ride,
One hop to the fence, a magnificent
drive.
As Amanda and Ashley came cross
the plate,
This was our chance to win it
in eight.
Ashley made all the catches
, all 3 of the outs,
The 6 to 4 victory no
longer in doubt.
I smiled as they gathered and
jumped all around,
Piling on, falling , and screaming
aloud.
The parents and coaches filled
with such pride,
For composure and courage
they all showed inside.
All the time and the energy,
seem far away,
Replaced by this moment which
unfolded today.
You must be impressed with these
girls in green,
A Championship Season, an amazing
team.
