SECTION 1

A. PURPOSE

1.To select and lead appropriate cheers for the student athletic events or other activities.

2. To promote and uphold school sportsmanship at all times.

3.To set an example to the student body of qualified leadership.

4.To keep school enthusiasm and pep at a high level for all games win or lose.

5. To arouse team interest and spirit during pep assemblies.

B. VALUES OF CHEERLEADING

1. To develope the following: leadership abilities, creative abilities, self-control, courtesy, tolerance, graciousness and good sportsmanship.

SECTION 2

A. TRYOUTS

1. Tryouts will be held each spring. The number of days for tryout practices, tryouts and requirements will be up to the discretion of the advisor and assistant advisor. Squads will be selected by the advisor, assistant advisor, faculty and qualified outside personnel whom does not have any conflict of interest.

2. The varsity squad shall consist of 8 but no more than 14 members including alternates.

3. The Junior Varsity squad shall consist of 8 but no more than 14 members including alternates.

4. The junior High squad shall consist of 8 but no more than 12 members including alternates.

5. Any cheerleader who will be a senior for the upcoming year that has held a position on the varsity squad for one full year from the time she tries out to the upcoming tryouts, and has had no suspension for any reason and has not quit will automatically be put on the squad for her senior year without trying out. If you had any suspensions you will be required to try out. If you had quit see #6.

6. Any cheerleader who quits before the last game of the winter sports will not be allowed to try out for 1 full year. Ex. If you quit in the school year 1997-1998 you can not try out until spring of 1999.

7. Any cheerleaderin the previous years that was a discipline problem or didn't fulfill her obligations will be on probation for the first six weeks starting with summer practices.

8. Any person trying out for cheerleading that has been exempt from gym for the entire school year due to medical reason with a doctors excuse will be reviewed by administration and must present a doctors excuse before trying out.

9. Varsity squad may consist of incomingFreshman/Sophomores/Juniors Seniors. Junior Varsitysquad may consist of incoming Eight graders/Freshman/Sophomores. Junior High squad may consist of incoming seveth graders.

10. Elections of cheerleaders will be determined at the time of tryouts by the judges scores with the ranking being highest to lowest points.

B. ELECTIONS

1. The junior high squad will have no captain.

2. The captains and co-captains of the varsity and junior varsity squad willl be chosen based on the following criteria:

a. Varsity squad eligibility: 1. Seniors 2. Juniors

3.Sophomores(must have one year previous experience)

b.Jr Varsity eligibility: 1. Sophomores 2.Freshman(must have one year experience)

c. A performance rating sheet on the previous year which will be filled out by the advisor and assistant advisor. Sample of a practice and game schedule agenda. Cheer/Chant/Dance routine in any combination to be announced prior to the tryout auditions. Being performed and judged at try outs.

d. Captains/Co captains may be removed from their positions by the agreement of the advisors and principal for behavior unbefitting a person in a responsible way such as this.

SECTION 3

A. DUTIES OF THE CAPTAIN AND CO-CAPTAIN

The following duties are listed below with the prior approval of the advisors:

1. Will set up practice/game agendas prior to the practice/games including uniform to be worn and game times.

2. Will set up and get approval for pep rallies.

3. Must have all practices start on time.

4. Will know the cheers and use the appropriate cheer for the situation.

5. Are responsible for conduct of the squad with obligation to report situations deserving demerits and merits when necessary. The advisors will determine if said demerits or merits will be issued.

SECTION 4

A. CONDUCT

1. Cheerleaders shall conduct themselves at all times, for they are official representatives of the school.
