Football Association
Newsletter Number
3 - 1999
Dear Teacher in charge of Soccer
This newsletter is primarily to confirm Tournament
entries and placements, and give some information regarding the NZSSFA
Representative team.
1. N.Z.S.S.F.A. REPRESENTATIVE
TEAM
Regional Reprersentative tournaments were held
during the June-July vacation, and a preliminary squad will be announced
by Jacques Vercauteren shortly. Mr Vercauteren will also view players at
the Palmerston North and Wanganui Tournaments, and will name the New Zealand
Schoolboys Representative Team at the prize-giving following the final
of the LOTTO Premier Tournament.
The details of the NZSSFA Rep teams trip to Australia
are currently being finalised, but in short the team will:
- Assemble in Auckland Thursday 16th September
- Depart for Brisbane, Australia Tuesday 21st September,
playing two warm-up and two internationals
- Return to Auckland Wednesday 29th September
Cost: it should be made clear to all boys wishing
to gain selection in this team that the cost of the trip will be in the
area of $1000-$1100, and the boys should begin to think about how they
will finance the trip if selected.
2. A.H.I. Cup
The A.H.I. Cup was donated to the Association
by Alex Harvey Industries in 1988. It is a Challenge Cup, which should
be defended by the holder seven times during the season, including the
last game at any tournament attended. At least one challenge must be accepted
from outside the region.
Kelston Boys High School are the current holders
of the A.H.I. Cup, winning the cup from Auckland Grammar in the last match
of the 1998 LOTTO Premier Tournament. Only 1 school from outside the Auckland
region - New Plymouth Boys High School - have challenged Kelston this year,
and that match was played in the second week of the June-July vacation.
Kelston will also be defending the Cup in their remaining home matches
in the Auckland LOTTO Premier League.
