Corsi hurts groin on infield grounder

THU. AUG. 27

Red Sox pitchers practiced fielding off the mound before Wednesday's game against the A's, but it must have jinxed reliever Jim Corsi.

Corsi suffered a strained right groin while fielding an Ed Sprague ground ball in the eighth inning, The Boston Globe reported.

After coming up with a limp, Sprague bumped Corsi to the ground on the first-base line in an effort to get to the base. Corsi left the game and is listed as day-to-day.

Sox must wait on any Saberhagen deal

WED. AUG. 26

The Red Sox have begun negotiating a three-year contract with Bret Saberhagen, but Saberhagen won't sign a contract until alimony issues with his former wife are settled, The Boston Globe reported.

Nearly half of the 34-year-old right-hander's salary goes towards alimony and child support. However, Saberhagen is close to finalizing an out-of-court settlement that apparently will reduce the amount of alimony due.

"Like I explained to Dan (general manager Dan Duquette), we can talk all we want and come to an agreement, but until I have the (divorce- related) papers in hand, I can't agree to anything," Saberhagen said.

The deal reportedly could be worth up to $8 million. Currently, Saberhagen earns $1.6 million.
