BOSOX CORNER

Although I'm actually a native of Tallahassee, FL, I spent a number of years in northern Massachusetts including attending
Masconomet High School in the tiny town of Topsfield. As a fan of the Boston Red Sox for more than 30 years I have suffered through the curse of the Bambino, the blunder of Buckner, and most recently the destruction of Duquette. Heading into the 1999 baseball season I'm not sure what we have to look forward to, but you are welcome to follow along with me thru my personal stories and the links on this page as the season progresses.

SPRING TRAINING
You've heard the phrase "Hope Springs Eternal", and each year the beginnings of spring brings new hopes to the Red Sox nation. This year is certainly no different as the Bosox try to improve on what was (all things considered) a pretty darn good season last year.

The Red Sox finished 1998 with the 4th best record in the American League and earned a trip to A.L. Playoffs despite nearly constant turmoil over the Mo Vaugn situation, and a series of injuries. That's a perfomance that will be hard for Jimy Williams and the cast of characters coming to Fort Myers, FL to surpass.

The Bosox lost more than just a consistant power producer when Duquette let Vaugn walk away as a fee agent. They also lost a clubhouse leader and a mentor to the new stud, Nomar Garciaparra.

It is unceratin who will take over for Mo at 1st base, and even less uncertain who will try to step into Mo's leadership role. The Red Sox front office made no effort to go out and get any of the big names available in the free agent market, so let's hope they know something that we the fans don't. They haven't proven it thus far!
