What You'll Learn

The study of TaeKwonDo at Sun Yi's Academy is comprised of four parts:

Basics - All students participate in the practice of basics. The basics consist of blocking (down block, side block, high block), punching, and kicking (side kick, round kick, front kick). The repetitious practice of basics allows the student to refine the necessary techniques to advance in rank.

Forms - Each rank (white belt thru black belt) has a separate form requirement. Forms are a series of basic moves that further aid in the refinement of technique as well as the development of focus and concentration. Students at Sun Yi's Academy practice the Chung-Hon Form set.

One-Step Self Defense - One-step self defense is the practice of multiple responses to a punching attack. Two students alternate punching and reacting to the punch in a variety of pre-defined steps. This helps promote the development of control and coordination by providing a target for the student responding to the punch.

Free-Sparring - In the traditional class format, free-sparring is practiced with light or no contact. Partners attack and defend as if they were in an actual confrontation. Free-sparring improves a students reaction time and control while concentrating on the correct technical execution of each skill.
