Step 3: Animating the Image
   

Once you have created an image with all of the static pictures in the correct place, you are ready to animate. Follow the instructions below to create the animation:

  1. With your image open in Photoshop click on File and select Edit in Imageready or click on the Image ready button on the tools toolbar Imageready icon .
  2. Your image will be opened up in Imageready for editing.
  3. Make sure the animation toolbar is visible on your screen. If it is not visible go to the Window file menu and check the Animation selection. You will also need the Layers toolbar visible. If it is not visible follow the same instructions as above with the exception of checking the Layers selection.
  4. You are now ready to create your first animation slide. Animation is made up of several slides of an image. Each slide has a certain amount of time that it is visible and will display only layers you want to at that time.
  5. You will see a slide of your image on the animation toolbar. At the Layers toolbar click the eye icon eye icon on each layer of your image that you do not want to be visible on the first slide.
  6. When you are ready to make a new slide, click the new slide button New slide icon on the animation toolbar.
  7. You can now hide or make visible different layers of your image for the follow on slides.
  8. When you have completed all of the slides you desire you need to set the amount of time that each slide will stay visible. On the bottom of each slide you can click and a time menu will appear. Set the time of each slide according to how fast or slow you would like the animation to display.
  9. You can preview how the image will display by clicking the finger pointing pointing finger icon. You can also do a preview in your browser by pressing F12.
  10. A neat function you can try is called the tween function. It is located on the animation toolbar with the circles icon tween. Tween will insert a number of slides determined by you around slides you have already created. This can help to smooth animation. Tweening will creating gradual effects between slides to make the animation more fluid. Try it.
