After another poor showing at Darlington, DJ is showing signs of weakening. Martin is getting up on him, and Gordon and Burton seem to smell blood in the water (that and oil dropped by Ricky Rudd). Our boys are heading to the short track at Richmond, a place where all four of those fellows shine. Who will come out on top?

One thing's for sure: no one is going to hold back to protect their standings in the points. DJ needs to get some strong finishes together to stay ahead, and the other boys need to outdo Jarrett at every turn. We've seen Gordon and the nauseator get risky in order to get up front, and you can plan on seeing a whole lot of rubbin' at Richmond. As always, when you talk rubbin' you gots to talk Rusty. You know he's going to make his presence felt, but he doesn't seem to have the desire to win that he once had. Sometimes he shows up, sometimes he doesn't. Richmond is one of his favorite tracks, though, so don't be surprised to see that number 2 doing some real damage out there.

Ernie Irvan has shocked the NASCAR world by announcing his retirement at the end of this year. Apparently his HMO is sick of paying all his hospital bills. He's had a good run, and we'll miss him here at NASCAR's most unretired web site. Boy, look at the damage we've done. We make fun of Ricky Rudd, Joe Nemechek, and Ernie Irvan. Ricky Rudd is losing his ride with Tide, Joe Nemecheck has been fired by his team owners, and Ernie Irvan is retiring from the sport. And we've been known to make some DW cracks -- and he's retiring after next season. We're powerful, folks, very powerful.

But let's get back to business. The last few races have finished with some weird names in the top 10. Joey Joe Joe was sixth last week, and Kevin Lepage was in the top 5. Kenny Wallace has been up there, and so has Bill Elliott and Ricky Rudd. A couple weeks ago some local yokel took second place at the Glen. Things are getting crazy, and things are never crazier than they are at a short track. As you know, the driver gets to play a more important role than he does at a superspeedway, so don't count out the guys with the less well-known teams. Any car could win this thing.

Instructions

First of all, choose your name from the pull-down list. Then pick the names of the drivers that you think will finish in the top five. After that, you get to make your surprise pick, where you'll name a guy who isn't high in the points, but you think has a shot to get into this week's top five. It doesn't have to be one of the names you've already put in your top five. Now that the season is in full swing, let's use the current Winston Cup Points standings. Click here to check out the nicely done standings page at nascar.com. Remember, your surprise pick can't be any of the names listed in the TOP TEN of the points standings.

And hey, don't forget to pick a DNF. That's the guy you think will get a big fat Did Not Finish.

Click on the upside-down triangle at the right margin of each blank to see a list of drivers, then select a name. No typing necessary. Don't forget to tell me your name!

Controversial Topic of the Week

Rudd and Nemechek have been fired. Irvan and DW are retiring. Are their decisions a result of our controversial website? If so, who or what should we focus our ridicule on next? Are we too powerful?
